Townscapes have always fascinated me and it has also been the subject that I have been painting for the longest. Over the years, as I have changed, so have my towns… and looking at them feels a bit like reading in a private journal.

Even though the class is called happy town, we will not miss the opportunity to add some fun people as well!

I am excited to share my process with you since I love the freedom mixed media offers me. Painting, printing, adding collage, working with a palette knife and using oil pastel, it is so much fun!

Materials Needed:

Paper for sketching
Pencil or pen
Paint (I used acrylic paint)
Palette knife and paint brushes
Acrylic binder or acrylic glue (I use Lascaux)
2 canvases ( I used 15" x 30" and 24" x 24")
Also possible to work on paper

Optional, but I used:

Gelli plate with brayer
Bamboo (Calame)
White ink
Oil pastels (I am using Canran d’Ache)
Block print block, linoleum carving tools
Sketching paper 70gr and 120gr
Chinese rice paper (Wenzhou paper)
