Harmony In Blue

Just grab your glue, some collage images, old magazines, vintage ephemera, and your scissors to begin this journey!

I truly believe that collage is imperative to learning more about composition, color, texture, design, and more. Not only does it develop your technical skills of creating harmonious, balanced pieces but it unlocks our intuitive nature and allows themes, symbols, and messages to arise in our work. It can serve as a playground for exploring imagery and juxtaposition but it can also stir our imagination, prompting new ideas, concepts, and styles.

The best part of collage is that EVERYONE can do it! No need for drawing or painting experience. Just grab your glue, some collage images, old magazines, vintage ephemera, and your scissors to begin this journey!

I hope you enjoy this magical process.

  • Your provided collage sheets
  • Other papers, old magazines and ephemera that you enjoy
  • Your favorite glue - I use Golden Soft Gel Matte Medium
  • Heavy watercolor or mixed media paper (150lbs/300 gsm) or a wood or canvas panel. You could alternatively work directly into your favorite art journal too.
  • Scissors
  • Clear Gesso
  • Old credit card or scraper (to assist in laying papers flat)
  • A brush suitable for gluing (I like to use a 1” flat brush)
  • Hairdryer or heat gun to speed up drying
  • OPTIONAL - pastels, PanPastels, gel pens, gold paint, acrylic paint, stencils or other mixed media tools you enjoy for collage.
