Autumn Calling

Journal Lesson

Capture autumn's glow in our watercolor class, celebrating the season's serene beauty.

Embrace the vibrant colors and light of autumn in our watercolor class, designed to capture the season's ephemeral beauty. Utilize a fall-inspired palette to depict the shimmering dance of pinks, golds, and oranges, encapsulating the serene moments of nature. This class offers more than just painting techniques; it's a chance to slow down, enjoy a warm drink, and indulge in moments of meditation or stretching while your artwork dries. Join us to celebrate autumn's splendor through watercolor, and discover the rewarding patience this art form requires.

  • Water and water container
  • Spray Bottle
  • Rag or Paper Towel
  • Pipette or Dropper
  • Palette (I like the plastic circular well palettes, they are inexpensive, and you can get them on
    Amazon)
  • Tape - 1 and ½ inch artists tapes cut down on measuring stress
  • Masking Fluid - I recommend Schminke (washes out of brushes) and Pebeo Latex Free (very
    gentle on paper)
  • Silicone Color Shaper OR cheap/old small nylon detail brush and a bar of soap
  • Rubber “pick up” tool for masking fluid (looks like an eraser, you can also use your hands, but it
gets tiresome - you can also use an amber artgum eraser)

Brushes

  • A big mop, big round, or small hake for wet washes - I used a Creative Mark mimik
    faux squirrel sz 20 filbert
  • Size 6 soft (faux squirrel) and/or or medium (faux sable) nylon or blends. I used a silver black
velvet size 6 and a protege by trekell size 6
  • Optional liner/detail brush size 0 or 1

Watercolor

  • I tend to use tube colors, but pans are fine. Talens Van Gogh are budget friendly
paints that offer lightfast versions of the colors I used. (Azo Green, Blue Violet, Azo Yellow
Deep, Burnt Sienna and Permanent Rose would be the Van Gogh palette)
  • I used: Winsor & Newton Green Gold, Daniel Smith, Carbazole Violet, M Graham Gamboge, M Graham Quinacridone Rust, Sennelier Helios Purple
