Fluid Art Flowers

Dive into fluid art: create unique backgrounds and delicate flowers in a supportive environment.

Welcome to our class where we dive into the mesmerizing world of fluid art! This course is designed for all levels, inviting you to create flowing backgrounds using fluid acrylics or alcohol inks. Feel free to use one of the demonstrated backgrounds or an abstract painting you already have. We'll start with a relaxing technique called Decalcomania to prepare for our main project—creating delicate flowers that we'll incorporate into our final artwork, enhancing it with personal touches to bring it to life.

Throughout this course, I'll share detailed processes and encourage you to choose materials and colors that resonate with your personal style. The title "Inspired" reflects the unique, genuine gift each student brings to their art, filtered through individual heart, mind, and energy.

Embrace the essence of fluid art—letting go of the outcome and enjoying the flow. Each creation is unique, teaching us to release expectations and embrace spontaneity—a valuable lesson for both art and life. Get ready to explore new techniques and express your creativity in a supportive, inspiring environment. Let’s start this creative journey together and see where your imagination takes you!

This is a list of what I’ll be using in this class. It's important to note that not all these supplies are necessary.

If you choose only to do an alcohol ink background, you only need alcohol ink supplies, decalcomania and general supplies.

If you choose to only do the acrylic poured background, you only need those for the acrylic pour, the decalcomania and general supplies.

Many of these supplies you might already have as an artist, and throughout the course I am constantly encouraging you to use the paints, colors and tools you already have. Included in this class are 2 art supply videos - one for alcohol inks, one for acrylic pouring, and a bonus alcohol ink mask & safety supply video in case you want advice on purchasing a mask for using alcohol inks.

My Top  “Must Haves” List: These are my go-to alcohol inks for almost any piece that I do. I recommend having them regardless of the colors you choose.

Decalcomania Supplies

Alcohol Ink Supplies - Choose Colors that you might want to try. I highly recommend buying the “must haves” + 3 other colors. These are beautiful ink packs that make a great “starter” kit for alcohol ink painting.

Tools For Blowing Ink: All of these tools are fun to have, but not necessary. They range in price from $5-$135. Blowing the inks with your mouth or a straw is not advised.

General Supplies for Fluid Art:

  • Latex Gloves to protect your skin
  • Plastic tablecloth to protect your table surface
  • Absorbent Pads (aka: Puppy Pads) are great for absorbing fluid art
  • Paper Towels
  • Water
  • Acrylic Substrate - Canvas or Wood Panel for Acrylic Pouring
  • Alcohol Ink Substrate for Alcohol Inks - The same Grafix plastic used in the warm-up will work for the alcohol ink background as well.
  • Gorilla Glue Gel XL - the best way I’ve found to affix the grafix to painted canvas
  • White Gel Pen (I like Arteza 3-pack)
  • Detail Brushes - for fine details like vines and leaves. I like Daco set but you can use what you already have.
  • Daler Rowney Acrylic Ink in Black & Pearlescent Green - these were the colors used in the final project.
