Grey Heron Tales

Journal Lesson

Embracing the natural world and all creatures great and small with an Art Nouveau influence.

I find solace in creating art from the heart, a practice that provides a sanctuary amid fear, grief, and confusion. Inspired by Jeff Goins’ quote, "The job of an artist is to offer a sanctuary of beauty to an ugly world," I reflect on how we can create sanctuaries within ourselves through our art.

In this course, we'll explore how embracing authenticity, consistency, and intentionality in our creative practice helps us discover our unique style. We'll delve into the importance of being truly present in our art-making process—allowing it to captivate us and momentarily take away the world's chaos.

This lesson focuses on my journey with realism and how I draw inspiration from the natural and mystical worlds, including my fascination with creatures visible and invisible. We'll discuss how studying admired artists and integrating their techniques can enrich our own creative expressions. I'll guide you through developing an idea into a final composition, incorporating technology to enhance our workflow. Together, we'll create a piece celebrating the majestic grey heron, infused with art nouveau elements.

Join me in this artistic adventure, where we'll harness our shared passion for art to craft works that not only represent beauty but also embody the joy and wonder of creation. Let’s start this journey and see where our creativity takes us!
