Journal Lesson

Join our Oil and Cold Wax Portrait Class to master oil painting and cold wax techniques.

I’m absolutely thrilled to have you join my brand new Oil and Cold Wax Portrait Class. This course is a unique opportunity for you to dive into the world of oil painting enriched with the fascinating techniques of cold wax. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just beginning your creative journey, this class is designed to inspire, challenge, and expand
your artistic horizons.

Based on a gorgeous portrait by John Singer Sargent you will create your own unique work.

To make 500g of cold wax, use...

  • 400 gram of Linseed oil
  • 100 gram of encaustic medium
  • a few teaspoons of Natural Earth paint Impasto medium (Artist-grade Limestone powder)

Process:

  • Melt the encaustic medium completely in a metal container then lower the heat.
  • Add the linseed oil, stirring constantly until it is a very oily paste
  • Add a teaspoon of Natural Earth paint Impasto medium and mix thoroughly, let it cool and see how "pasty" the results are. Add another teaspoon of impasto medium if needed.
  • If the CWM hardens too much by the next use, simply warm it slightly and it will be ready to use again
  • The drying time is affected by so many factors that I cannot accurately predict how long it will take to dry for you so please be patient if it is not as quick as you would like. If it is too fast, lessen the amount of Impasto medium you add.
