The Water Faery

Journal Lesson

Paint dreams and soul journeys with our Water Faery project, guided by magical inspiration.

I really love working intuitively and letting my creative muse come out to play.
In this project I will be showing you some of my favorite techniques with watercolor and how you can achieve translucency and depth by layering and just having a bit of patience.

This month’s theme really resonates with me as I love to paint my dreams and visions, but also the journeys I take through the realms of my soul.

Ever since I was little I loved to spend time in the nature, connect with the Faery folk and spirits of nature. I strongly believe that magic can be found everywhere, we just need to keep our eyes and heart open.

As B. Froud says, “Faeries are the inner nature of the land, and a reflection of the inner nature of our souls. They are not seen through the eyes, but through the heart.”

As we paint our Water Faery, a magical guardian of nature’s secrets, she will inspire, enchant and guide us with the gift of creativity and inspiration.

Watercolors: You only need a few colors of your choice. These are the ones I used
in tubes:

  • Daniel Smith: Quinacridone gold ( a golden yellow), Imperial purple (deep, cool
purple), Opera Rose (bright pink), Quinacridone Rose (deep pink), Green Gold (light
    green)
  • Winsor & Newton: Cobalt turquoise light (teal), Phthalo Turquoise (deep turquoise),
    Aqua green, Payne's gray.
  • Watercolor paper (I used a 9x12" Fabriano hot press) or watercolor or mixed media
    journal
  • Pencil & eraser
  • Paintbrushes: A large round (I used an 8) and a fine liner for details
  • Palette for mixing colors
  • Water jar, napkins, salt
  • White gel pen or sharpie
  • Color pencils of the same tones as your colors, and a dark color like payne's gray
    or black.
