It is well known that art helps us process emotions and can bring healing to a wounded heart.

But did you know that just as art can calm and soothe your mind and spirit, it can also help bring healing to your body?

Studies done in hospitals shows that viewing art with certain properties can increase a sense of wellbeing, reduce blood pressure due to stress, and even decrease the need for pain medications.

It only makes sense that creating art, which can profoundly decrease your stress levels, can also bring positive effects to your physical well-being.

In this class, I’ll teach you the five essential properties of art that calms and heals, while guiding you through three different projects. These projects will teach you techniques that will empower you to incorporate those properties into your artwork. Whether making art for yourself or others, learning these properties will help bring a sense of peace and healing to your own art practice and style.

  • Your favorite brushes in a range of sizes
  • Golden Open Acrylics--- Paynes gray, Iridescent Gold light, Titan Buff (Nice to have but can substitute with other acrylics.)
  • Acrylic paints in yellow, flourescent pink, neutral gray, titanium white, dioxazine purple, green gold, pthalo green
  • White gouache
  • Square Canvas (I used 12" x 12")
  • Gold Leaf
  • Golden Hi Flo Acrylics or acrylic inks in Greens and Purples
  • Jacquard alcohol ink in metallic gold
  • Adirondack alcohol inks in a blues, greens, yellow, and purples.
  • 1 piece of watercolor paper or heavy weight scrap paper for warmups 8.5" x 11"
  • black sharpie or marker
  • toned paper (I used Strathmore toned paper in tan)
  • conte crayons in black, white and brown
